Storing your records

Never stack records on top of one another. The weight quickly multiplies and will eventually warp or break the ones at the bottom.

Store upright in a fairly stable & dry environment.

Avoid direct sunlight; this will fade the sleeves quickly, and can bring the surface temperature of the jacket high enough to start warping the record inside.

Anything you store records in should have a completely flat bottom, back, and sides. Boxes with rails, grooves, or slats will leave dents on your jacket over time, especially any on the bottom.

Small collections

Wooden crates & boxes are great for small & medium collections. TK Maxx often has high-quality wooden boxes for relatively cheap. Integrated units built around a turntable platform are also cool.

Medium/Large Collections

Ikea Kallax is a great 'hack' for storing growing collections

Ultra-large collections

Would need bespoke built-in storage as a every ten records will weigh 1-2 kilograms. I would go wide and low with multiple 4x2 Kallax units, but wouldn't trust a 4x4 Kallax unit to hold all that weight, even with reinforcement.

When your collection gets big enough, you'll have to consider how to order it.

Dividers - pictured above and right - may help too.

By artist, by year, by album name, autobiographically, by colour....
