Speaker Positioning
In theory the "perfect" setup is in the middle of a symmetrical room, with the speakers several feet away from the walls, pointed slightly behind you, at ear height, and forming an equilateral triangle between your head and the Left/Right speakers... In practice I don't know anyone with this setup. Most speakers are simply plonked either side of the turntable and pointing somewhere that isn't towards the listener... which is also fine!
If you're throwing on a record to have in the background this doesn't really matter, but if you're wanting to properly listen to a record - see 'active listening' - you'll want to experiment with some of the below to make the experience as good as it can be.
At the very least you want to be positioned in the middle of any pair of speakers to maximise the right/left stereo effect. If possible, it's worth marking your desk/surface to keep you right. The closer you are to the speakers, the more you'll would want to angle them slightly inwards - usually aiming them behind your head. Remember that your speakers and 'listening place' don't have to be near your turntable!
